I was busy doing things around this house today and happened to look out the window. OMG ... there was a Hawk on my fence. Now let me start by saying, I live in a subdivision - better yet - a small townhouse with a small backyard. I have had problems with squirrels, raccoons (both found their way into my attic in years past) and have seen owls, skunks and rabbits... now a Hawk. Of course by the time I found my camera, realized the batteries were dead, stole the batteries from the converter and laptop mouse, the hawk had moved. I found it on a neighbours fence and then watched it fly past my house to land in a tree a few houses away. This is when I finally got a (not great) picture. I keep going to the window now to see if it has come back - the camera is now ready. Back to housework.

Parrot Heads Unite

Preface: Whoops... I had (well I thought) this timed to release last Saturday. I just realized that I didn't set the date correctly. Goes to show I haven't been posting much lately. Here is the post - below.

Wednesday night was a baking class, Thursday night was a concert and Friday night I crashed!

So what do 7 friends do when they are given a Box Suite at the Air Canada Center to see Jimmy Buffett - they get some wine, rent a limo and head to the ACC in style!.

It was raining so taking the limo was perfect. We got to sit back, drink some wine, eat some Nachos and leave the stress to Bill (the Driver).

We had pizza and wings brought into the box, danced, sang, drank more wine and had a fun time.

A little bit of summer on a rainy fall night. I promise - I will be stamping soon :)

Baking Class - Dolce Style

On Wednesday night a friend and I decided to take a Baking Class. There is a cooking school close by that specializes in Italian cuisine. We have taken a class there before - but never a Baking Class. Note.. it was like going back to Italy - everyone in the class was Italian but me :)

We made 7 different treats. Everything from Easy Torrone and Biscotti to Nutella and Amaretto stuffed pockets (yum). The pictures were taken with my cell - so the quality isn't great - but the treats were deliciouso! While not very Italian one of my favs was the Lemon bar. And yes - I did learn something. I learned I need to be more patient - especially when it comes to mixing sugar in with eggs. I am definitely going to make some of these for Christmas.

(PS.. the one shaped like a piece of pizza was made with a Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie mix. It was easy and tasted like a delicate Italian treat). And yes - we got to wash the treats down with wine.

A Too Cute Treat Box or.... do you remember Lola Wedges?

I know that everyone calls these "Sour Cream" containers - but do you remember Lola's?. Not sure if this was just available in Canada or if they were also in the US or elsewhere. When I was a kid we had these frozen slushy treats called Lolas. Basically it was a frozen flavoured ice treat and they were in the shape of the sour cream container - but bigger. I remember as a kid sitting on the porch with a Lola and sucking the cherry flavour off the ice. If you squeezed up the ice too high some of the juice would spill over the sides. Of course if you sucked off too much of the flavour all you had left was ice. There was an art to eating a Lola. I had these on my desk at work today and was surprised how many guys walked by, picked up the little treats and said .... hey.. .these look like Lolas. I digress.

Yes this is a too cute Sour Cream (or Lola) container. Picture it.... 25 of these made up and hung on the tree for an advent calendar. Of course they would be filled with treats or little notes. They could also be used at dinner plates (instead of a cracker) or better yet.... if you are giving $$$$ for Christmas, put the money in the container, seal it up and hang it on the tree. Pretty neat little gift ideas. And they are super quick to make.

As a side note... one of the guys and I decided to look up Lola on the net today to see if they were still available. We googled Lola under Images and got lots of pictures of "lovely ladies" (tongue in cheek!). I am sure the guys in our IS department were wondering what on earth I was doing.

A Non-stamped Christmas Card

Before the Big Shot, Cuttlebug, Cricut, etc. etc. etc - there was Big Red - the Sizzix. I bought them all (and sill have them all - I have ISSUES!) I also purchased alphabet sets, shapes, etc. Now that SU has the Big Shot - I am starting to look at all my Sizzix stuff again. I am so happy I didn't get rid of them.

This card is a very simple Christmas Card. I used the Big Shot and my Sizzix alpha die to cut out the letters "JOY". Luckily I also had the Holly die. I used the Versamark and inked up the letters, then used the Heat and Stick Powder and then some Red Cosmo Glitter (the card needed some bling).

I think the card is still missing something. I will have to relook at it. You know - sometimes you just need to step away from a card and come back to it with a fresh eye.

Off to do some reading. The book I have out right now is called "The Choice" by Nicolas Sparks. I had a message from the Library that another book I requested is in so I need to pick it up. I think there are now 12 books that I have on hold - Guess what I am going to be doing a lot of?

A Really Simple Card

If you ever want a quick and easy card - here you go. I needed some Baby Cards but you could do Thank You, Birthday, Thinking of You, Christmas (see tomorrow's post) etc. This is a great way to use up scraps of paper.

I know this is a no-no - but one of the cards is using non-SU paper (my bad!) I have a drawer of partially cut paper and I am trying to use it up.

These are so simple I am almost embarrassed to show them - but here ya'll go.

Top Note Gift Box - Stampin Up!

This is not what I originally had ready to post tonight but you know how I am when I make something too Stinkin Cute - I have to share.

This is a little gift box - perfect for a small gift (you know like Jewellery!), candy, gift certificate, etc. It measures 2.5 x 3.5 x 2(h). The top of the box is made using the Top Note Die. It is scored and folded around the edges. I also "spritzed" some Frost White Shimmer Paint to the top (rubbing alcohol + shimmer paint mixed together and put into a small spritzer bottle = spray shimmer paint). Perfecto!

Note - I am addicted - I just made another one and "have" to show you.

Some good news - I work for an Engineering firm. The Engineers belong to an "Association" (not a Union) and they walked off work September 25th (the day I left for Italy). Today they finally voted on an offer and (for the most part) they voted to come back to work starting tomorrow. I was getting worried - without them, they really didn't need me. A weight lifted for everyone involved. Happy Monday!

Delightful Decorations (yes again!)

What a productive day (or I should say weekend). You know all the extra supplies you cut when you have a workshop or class. Well I finally took those supplies and turned them into cards. What a good feeling. I also started my stash of Christmas Cards. In all there were over 50 cards I made. Most have been shown before so I won't bore you with pictures. There were a few new cards and I will post those over the next few days.

The card du jour really isn't a card but a gift card holder. This was inspired by Dawn HERE

Delightful Decorations - another sample card

I cannot take credit for this card. For those that don't know, "CASE" stands for "Copy and Share Everything". Don't you love a hobby where you can find an idea and copy it. Of course I want to give credit to where I found it. Check out Dacia Smith's blog HERE to see her creation plus loads of other ideas.

Thanks to Laurie and some of the ladies I traveled to Italy with - I am the proud owner of a..... "Library Card". Don't laugh. Some of the ladies I traveled to Italy with were avid readers. It got me to thinking when was the last time I sat down and read a book - it had been a very long time. Then Laurie had been telling me about the local library, how you can go on the net, hold books, check what the current releases are etc. and it can all be done on-line. So I signed up, got myself a Library Card and currently have 7 books on hold. The first one came in on Thursday and I picked it up. Luckily there is a "Satellite" Library around the corner from my house so it is really close. I think with the cold weather coming, the rainy dreary days, it gets everyone into the "nesting" mode. (A nicer way of saying hibernation". Off to read a chapter or two. :)

My Digital Studio - A Christmas Card

I still have a couple of cards to share from Saturday's Delightful Decorations Class BUT.... I just received this in the mail and I have to show you.

This is my first crack at a Card (Christmas of course) using Stampin Up's "My Digital Studio". I only made one card and requested that it be printed at the official printer. No this is not economical for a one-of card. But.... if you were making Invitations, Thank You Cards, Family Christmas Cards, etc.... this would be perfect. You can also use the "My Digital Studio" to make Scrapbooks in various sizes, calendars and many other projects.

Obviously the card from the printer is one-dimensional. It has photo corners, ribbon, a button and a snowflake. But I wanted to umph it up a bit. So I punched out photo corners and popped them up, then added some ribbon, button and brads. I then added Dazzling Diamonds to the Snowflake and there you have it... a card.

This is the side view showing the layers.

I also added some "digital" trim to the inside of the card with a sentiment.

Pretty neat huh! I will definitely be mass producing some in the future. They make it easy for you - there are templates (which this is) or you can create a project from scratch.

I get so excited when something turns out - I just have to share.

This was a perfect day. I am such a home-body. I got up, took a shower, put a pot roast in the crockpot, turned on the fireplace and made cards. Perfect!

Delightful Decorations - SU Christmas Class

Wheeee... another Christmas Card class done. I love making Christmas Cards and showing the ladies new things. This class was based on the Delightful Decorations Stamp set (#116517) and the Co-ordinating Punch (#116794).

I will post samples over the next few days. The card I am posting today is also using the Movers and Shapers (#116821) and the Printed Window Sheets (#116805). The sentiment on the inside is using Many Merry Message (#116586).

It was a beautiful crisp fall day today. The sun was coming through the windows and all I could see was the dirt on them. So before the ladies came over this afternoon I had to clean the windows inside and out. It sure did look better once the windows were done. Now if I can just do something about the squirrels that "insist" on burying their treasures in my lawn - anyone have any suggestions.

Sweet Treats (Stampin Up Style)

I have finally started to play with Stampin Up's Sweet Centers (#116521-$41.95) and the Sweet Treat Cups (116802-$3.95). The DSP Used is Cottage Wall (115671). Here is a Get Well Card using the petals.

I have a class this weekend, Christmas Cards using Delightful Decorations (#116517-$28.95) and I am all ready for the ladies. I have been a busy girl - tonight I finished the samples for the Christmas Jingle Class on November 28th - 20 Unique Christmas Cards using the Christmas Jingle Scrapping Kit. The cards are adoreable and I have to give "Rose" credit for the idea.

On a final note for the evening - Don't decide to eat a sandwich when watching the Food Challenge on Survivor! Gross. I didn't need that sandwich anyhow!

Last but not least...

I am behind in updating (what else is new). The last day in Rome was spent touring the Colosseum and the Roman Forums. The driver picked me up at the hotel at 2:00 pm. I got up early and headed over to the Trevi Fountain. I had been there before but it was always so crowded. There weren't many people there at 8:30 in the morning so I got to toss my coin in the fountain. I had a couple take a picture of me at the fountain and I know it was on my camera - but not sure where it went to. Guess it means another trip to Rome :)

The afternoon tour started at the Colosseum. I am in awe as to the age and history of this city.

We then headed over to the Roman Forum. This is the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina.

So folks - that is it. My trip is over. I had booked it over six months ago and waited (sometimes impatiently) for the big day. It has come - and gone! Right now it seems like an outer body experience. Did I really book a trip without knowing anyone, tour Tuscany and Florence with the group and then head to Rome on my own?. Yes, yes and yes. I met a wonderful group of ladies and experienced a trip of a lifetime. It can be done. Some of the ladies are thinking about Provence next year - it would be wonderful to travel with them again. In the meantime a group of us are meeting up on November 1st for a "Tuscany Potluck Brunch" and picture sharing.

Tomorrow it is back to work, life, and yes Stampin Up. I have a class this coming weekend and finally got the class designed and prepped today. Rome, the Vatican and other sites

Before I left Toronto - my Travel Agent had booked some sight seeing tours for me once I got to Rome. Since I would only be in Rome for a few days, I wanted to make sure that I at least saw the highlights and didn't wander around aimlessly (which I did anyhow!).

My first tour is of the Vatican - including the Papal Tombs, St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. The Tour Operator was scheduled to pick me up at the hotel at 6:40 am. Guess who slept in?. I brought a travel alarm clock with me - but I guess the pace of the last 10 days caught up to me. I remember the alarm going off and I remember turning it off and thinking - 10 more minutes. I ended up waking up again at 6:20 am. I managed to jump in the shower, dress, brush my hair and teeth and put on some blush and mascara and was in the lobby by 6:40 waiting for the driver.

We first hit the Vatican Museums. We were able to take pictures here (without flash). There are many samples of this style on the ceilings. Doesn't this look raised - it is all done with paint and depth.

Before heading to St. Peter's Basilica we visited the Papal Tombs and the Sistine Chapel. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any pictures in either area (with or without flash).

La Pieta by Michelangelo. Dated 1499 - WOW! Unfortunately someone tried to deface the statue in 1972. It is now behind glass to protect it.

Bronze Statue of St. Peter. It is hard to see in the picture - but his feet (especially the right one) has been worn down by people rubbing and kissing it. The exact date of the scupture is up for debate - but it is thought to be the late 13th century. And yes - I lined up to touch it.

The Basilica is full of what looks like paintings. But... there is not one painting in the Chapel. They are all Mosaics. Amazing works of art.

Instead of taking the Tour Bus back to the hotel, I decided to walk back through the City. I swear the bottom of my feet were bruised (if that is possible).

The Colosseum... I have a tour booked tomorrow of the Colosseum, Palantine Hill and the Roman Forum. I couldn't resist though walking around the area today. I found a bench and sat outside the Colosseum for over an hour watching the people (oh and eating Gelato!) The weather was amazing.

Take a look at the top of this column. It looks like three heads.

Welcome to Rome (kind of!)

I met Nanette for breakfast before I headed out to the Train station. It seems so final with everyone else gone and me leaving for Rome. Time sure does fly by.

Traveling in a foreign country on my own is definitely "outside the box" for me. I couldn't believe I was standing at the Florence train station by myself trying to navigate my way to Rome. Other than dealing with the luggage it was really very easy. A nice gentleman helped me put my luggage in the overhead as the coral was full. Getting it down from the overhead was another story - I think I nearly knocked someone out. The ride was very comfortable and safe.

So.... I get into Rome around 11:30 am and make my way out to the "official" taxi cab stand. I was told gypsy drivers would approach me in the terminal but to ignore them and to get an official Rome cab. So far.. so good. NOT!

Oh yes it was an official cab but he was a crook. He was talking to me on the way to the hotel - understood each other with no problems. As we arrived, I looked at the meter and it said $19.00 (euros). No problem. I took out a $20.00 and was going to give him a tip from the stash of coins I had. I gave him the $20.00 and in a blink of an eye, he tucked it away and had two $5.00s in his hand instead - then I looked again at the meter and it said $29.00. Not only did he rip me off for the $20.00 - he also jacked up the meter by $10.00. I was saying to him that I gave him a $20.00 and the meter was only $19.00 but all of a sudden it as "no capich" (or however you spell it). It is really hard to argue with someone who is blathering away in a foreign language and I knew I wasn't going to win so I paid him. I kept saying to him "you are ripping me off" but the next thing you know he was out of the car and my luggage was on the street. (My hotel was on a side street with no vehicle access). I was so flustered that I didn't get a look at the cab number. I was ticked at myself for letting this happen. When I checked into the hotel I had to tell someone so mentioned it to the front desk. He apologized and said this was not the first time that he has heard this story and the fare should have been no more than $20.00 Euros. Unfortunately though without the cab number there wasn't anything he could do. I felt better though just to tell someone. I am definitely on my guard now though.

I spent the afternoon walking around Rome. Found the Temple of Hadrian, Patheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps etc.

If this is what it is like in October - I couldn't imagine the crowds in the Summer.

Tomorrow I am being picked up at 6:40 am for a Tour of the Vatican.

Cinque Terre - The Italian Riviera

It was a beautiful day - and who wanted to spend it inside an art gallery looking at another painting - not me.

It was all Brenda's fault. Earlier in the week she asked our Guide (Raffaele) about Cinque Terre - how far away it was, was it worth it, yadda, yadda, yadda. Next thing you know five of us signed up for this side tour. To be honest - I "think" I have heard about it but it wasn't something I had researched or knew much about. Bottom line - the weather was perfect, Raffaele was our guide and we had an amazing time.

Cinque Terre is a great site for avid hikers. However - for us "day trippers" they have an easy walk. We started out in the town of Riomaggiore. Raffaele dropped us off and we shopped and explored the village. We arranged to meet up with him after we explored the town.

They have a walk way on the side of the hill that goes from one town to the next. Raffaele walked with us to the next town - Manorola

Raffaele then put us on a ferry that goes from Manorola to Vernazza (the fourth town). He backtracked the walk and then drove to the fourth town to meet us. In the meantime we toured around and had some lunch (with wine). Cinque Terre has its own wine. It is a white wine and very good.

Raeffele then met us and drove us to Corniglia (town Three). (We did four of the five towns). I started to head towards the Marina in this town. It was through back alleys and as it got closer to the water it became very steep and rocky - I gave up and went back into the town. Could you imagine daily life - no wonder we didn't see many overweight Italians.

In most cases - it is a single lane road that winds through the mountains with many hairpin turns. At one point traffic was stopped in both directions (on a curve) and we couldn't figure out why..... until we got to pass it...

We arrived back at the hotel around 5:30 pm. It was a free night for dinner but a group of us got together one last time. Tomorrow the group leaves for the airport at 4:45 am for the trip home. I leave for Rome at 9:45 am and Nanette (our group leader from Toronto) leaves for home on Monday.

Firenza.......... (or Florence)

Today we left for Florence. Our home for the next few nights is the Borghese Palace Art Hotel www.borghesepalace.hotelinfirenze.com

This is a very modern hotel compared to the last one we were in.

We arrived at the hotel around 10:15 am and dumped our luggage (the rooms weren't ready) . We all split to go into different directions. We had a lot of ground to cover (bite to eat / shopping) before we met again at 1:45 for a walking tour of Florence. We found the leather stores near Santa Croce Church and the Jewellery stores on and near the Ponte Vecchio Bridge.

This is the bridge. You want Jewellery - this is the place to go. Even though everyone said the shops off the bridge are cheaper - I found a pair of earrings "on the bridge". (They had my name on them :))

Florence is known for its Mopeds. They are everywhere.

We had our final group meal tonight. We dined at Frescobaldi Wine Bar in Florence www.deifrescobaldi.it/ . This was one of the dishes. Deliciouso.... one of my favourite meals. I know this might not sound great but it was delicious - Ravioli stuffed with a pumpkin puree (there was something else in the mix but it was a chef secret) and it was topped with an Amaretto sauce.

Before dinner we met on the rooftop patio of the hotel to have a drink of champagne and some wine and cheese. It was a nice way to officially end our trip.

Most of us (myself included) have tickets for the Uffizi Gallery tomorrow. However, five of us decided to ditch the gallery and head off for a special tour. You will have to check in tomorrow to see what we got up to. I will say though - that I loved Florence. It is a compact city, extremely clean and easy to walk around and navigate. Hopefully I will be back some day to really explore the city.

Pienza and Montalcino (with a side of wine and cheese)

Today we are off to learn about cheese and wine (yes - more wine). Our destination for cheese is in the Val d'Orcia valley near Pienza. It is a local farm called Podere Il Casale www.podereilcasale.it

We sat in the dining room as Ulisse explained to us the process of making "pecorino" sheep cheese. The amazing part was as he explained - he was also making a round of cheese. He was very gentle and methodical in the process. By the time he was finished explaining he had a block of cheese. Of course it had to be aged but it was pretty neat to see the process. We also got to sample cheeses that had been aged for various periods. Did you know that cheese is great dipped in honey and / or flavoured mustards. Who would have thought! (note - yes there are bottles of wine on the table!)

We then headed out to where he actually makes and stores the cheese.

No matter where you go in the Tuscany region - you have amazing views. This is the view from their farm.

So far we have lucked out on weather. Today there was rain in the forecast. Luckily it only rained when we were on the bus going back to the hotel. Every time we left the bus to visit a town, farm, winery - the sun came out.

Cooking in Tuscany.

Today we spent the day shopping for groceries, cooking, drinking wine, eating and drinking wine. By the way - my clothes are starting to get tight.

We met our chef "Laura" at a small town called Castellina.

When the class was over, Laura gave us all Tuscan spoon dishes with the name of her Villa on them. It was such a nice day, the food was delicious and the weather amazing.

Well folks, it has only taken 5 days but I finally got my Gelato and it was delicioso (is that Italian?).

In the morning we left for Arezzo. We entered the town at the top of the city and walked our way down. The top of the city was pretty quiet with a church and public square. Some of the scenes from "Its a Beautiful Life" were filmed in this square.

As we walked towards the bottom of the city - it became very busy and commercial. We all split up and headed in different directions meandering through the streets. It is a pretty city - but in the end we felt it was a little too commercial for us. The good news is though...... I finally got my Gelato!

I have to say that the weather so far has been amazing. We have been leaving the hotel most mornings by 9:00 am. All we have needed in the morning is a light sweater. Most days, we have had to drop the sweater by 11:00.

After Arezzo we headed towards Cortona (with cheque book in hand).

We have had the same Guide and Driver all week and they have been amazing. Can you image two men putting up with 15 women for a whole day. Rafaello (the guide) has it down to a science. He must know every washroom in Tuscany and Pierro (the Driver) drops us off as close to the city centre as possible. They also give us extra time in some of the cities to shop. (PS... I haven't bought anything yet!)

Here are some of the side streets in Cortona.

A few of us stopped at Illy's for a Cappucino (ok.. I had tea!) This is Helen, Susan, Leslie and Judy. Maybe this is why I haven't bought anything - I keep stopping to eat.

Here is an tid-bit for Cortona. Everyone comes to the city to see the "fountain" from the movie. The only problem is the fountain never existed and was only erected for the film. When the movie was over - the Director gave the fountain to the city to be left in the square. After a while the locals requested that the fountain be removed because it took up too much space and they had less room for the local market. The fountain was removed.

Tomorrow we are off to Castellina in Chianti for our cooking class. I am not a big drinker (well I wasn't) and don't like to cook - and here I am in Tuscany - go figure.

Today involved wine, food with wine and more wine.

We spent the day in the Chianti region. Our first stop was at the cellars of Castello de Verrazzano located near Greve in Chianti. The grounds and views from this winery were amazing. You could see forever. We had a tour of the winery then spent a lot of time "tasting". I had been to some wine tastings in the Niagara Region but this is different. It isn't a small sampling either, they keep it coming and bring out bread and olive oil, different wines (I think we tasted four different wines here) and the most amazing balsamic vinegar I have ever had.

Then we headed into Panzano in Chianti and had what was called a "light lunch" on the top floor of a Tuscan butcher shop - the owner is the famous Tuscan butcher - Dario Cecchini. This is what they consider a "light lunch" (with wine).

We then spent some time in Radda and then headed to the cellars at Castello di Brolio.

The second winery was very different from the one we visited in the morning. More high tech and elaborate. There were three different wines we tried here. Check out this table we had the tasting at.......

We started our day of wine tasting at 10:00 am - there was a lot of laughter on the bus by the time we were finished. When we finally sat down for our evening dinner - not one of us ordered wine with our meal.

Tomorrow we are off to Arezzo and Cortona. I am bringing my cheque book in case I find a Villa to buy :)

San Gimignano and Siena

I have great intentions (cough, cough). When I get home I hope to "Start" and actually finish a scrapbook of the trip. If I blog the details each day, I will be able to use the blog to scrapbook the trip. If I don't write them down - I will never remember them all.

We left the Villa (we are staying at the Borgo di Cortefreda) at 9:00 am and headed to San Gimignano. We lucked out with weather. It rained all last week and the sun is shining for us this week. Luckily the tour buses hadn't arrived and the town was pretty quiet until we started to leave.

Here are some pics of some of the group, views and awes.

After San Gimignano we headed for lunch at Agriturismo Il Castagnolino. www.agriturismoilcastagnolino.com This is first - a working farm and then a guest house. The owners gave us a tour of their herb farm and grounds and then we sat down outside to a sampling of home made foods. Everything was home made and they used the herbs from the garden. Even the Gelato and Olive Oil was home made. The flavour of everything was so pure - my taste buds have come alive. And yes folks... wine was involved.

After lunch we headed to Siena for a guided walking tour of the town. We lucked out - only once a year the floors of the Duomo are uncovered for 6 weeks. We were able to see all the inlay work. It truly is beautiful. I had taken a video of the inside of the Duomo. Unfortunately the internet connection is very slow and I didn't want to take the chance to upload the video.

We ended the day with Dinner (and more wine) in a Medievale restaurant in Siena called Gallo Nero.

I have lost track of the days and what we are suppose to do tomorrow. I do know though that wine will be involved. I think there is a theme starting.

Treasures of Tuscany

Part of the reason for being neglegent in blogging is because I was getting ready for my Treasures of Tuscany trip. I MADE IT.

After flying Toronto to Rome and then catching a connecting flight to Florence than a 45 minute drive south to the Chianti Region - we are tucked away into our Villa for the first part of our Journey. What an amazing place. I am posting a couple of pictures of the Villa. We had an amazing meal this evening and it is 9:30 pm and I am about to go to bed. We have a full day tomorrow - hitting San Gimignano in the morning (with a wine tour) then lunch, a tour of Siena and then dinner in Siena.

We arrived at the Villa around 1:15 - by the time we unpacked and got settled in a group of us went out the pool and "sampled" some wine. The clouds started to come in around 4:30. Luckily the weather for the next 10 days is sunny and high 70s.

Can you believe that Summer is almost over? I know there are still a few weeks left and the weather has finally turned nice (it has only taken 3 months!) but with the kids going back to school tomorrow - it is the unofficial end to Summer. Where did it go? Tomorrow the School buses will be back on the road and there will be more traffic in general. And do you realize that Thanksgiving (at least in Canada) is just over a month away. What a depressing thought!

One of my "New Year's Resolutions" was to try and use up my non SU supplies. Let's just say that I haven't done very well. BUT... I have greatly reduced the amount of non-SU supplies that I bought (does that count).

Here is a birthday card. The tag embellishment and paper are non-SU. Everything else is SU.

A Baby and a Birthday Card

Yes I feel guilty. I haven't blogged in ages - I haven't even gone in to check my blog or visit others. As the youngins say .... 'my bad'.

I was at my G-nephews first birthday yesterday - gotta love babies. As tradition has it - he had his own birthday cake and he got to do whatever he wanted with it. And here is the proof.

OK.. I know he is my G-Nephew but he is dang cute.

A special birthday needed a special birthday card. This style of card is all over the blogs and SCS. I was inspired by Diana Gibbs card HERE. Did you know that she is a SU Artisian Award winner for the new year!!! WOW - what an accomplishment.

Here is my card. It is super easy to do - but a heck of a lot of cutting.

Good news all around and some Christmas Treat Samples....

Yesterday morning I had to be at the dealership at 9:30 am to get my car serviced. It is located in uptown Toronto so I decided when I was done that I would head to downtown Toronto to have lunch with my Sister's MIL at the hospital. She had her meal and I had a sub. We had a nice visit. The good news with her is that they will not have to operate. She will probably be transferred this week to a rehab hospital - I think they are looking at her being at the rehab hospital for about 6 weeks. Note to my American friends - Health care is a good thing!

More good news - I was able to retrieve all of my pictures and most of my files. Unfortunately what wasn't retrievable were all my bookmarks. I am a creature of habit. I was use to the way my computer was set up, where the files were located, bookmarks etc. I will go to do something now and it is in a different place or missing. I am slowly starting to save the bookmarks but can't remember some of the sites I use to visit. It will take a while. I will make sure to backup everything on a regular basis now.

I wanted to be creative today - but not so much. I was suppose to get samples done for an upcoming class - instead I made some Christmas treat items. One of them is using Stampin Up's Matchbox Die. I filled it with Hershey Kisses.

The other is a super simple box found HERE. The original post was from 2007 but it is so cute and simple to produce. The only problem is - I ate way too many Peppermint Patties :)

Computers.... UGH!

Note to self.... if you buy an external hard drive make sure you back up on a regular basis.

Before I get into the computer stuff - I spent a good chunk of the day at the Hospital downtown visiting with my sister's MIL. She is in good spirits but I am sure the cast weighs more than she does. It goes from her ankle to the top of her thigh. They were going to operate but hadn't been able to fit her in yet (at least before I left).

So.. I decided to deal with my computer issues once I got home. I have an old desktop (yes what I am using now) and then my laptop. My laptop has absolutely my world on it. I finally bought an external hard drive on May 31st and yes folks that was the last time I backed it up. I just got off the phone with Dell (that is a whole other story!) who informed me that we will need to do a complete system install which means that I am going to loose everything on my laptop. Luckily I was able to still see the pictures so I am busy copying the 5,627 images from my laptop to the external hard drive. Right now what I am stressing over is all the Family Research information I had on my desk top. Hopefully most of it will be on the External Hard Drive.

Thoughts and Prayers - Stampin Up

I need a Get Well card for tomorrow so finally inked up Thoughts and Prayers. Whenever I see a card with flowers, hatpins, etc - I love them. I gave it a shot on this card. I am not sure if it is the colours, layout or what - but it doesn't look like I want it to (or like the cards I see with hatpins). It is late and I am tired - so maybe if I look at it again in the morning I will like it better. My sister's mother-in-law fell and broke her leg. They are operating on her tomorrow so I will head to the hospital to visit. She is 91 and a sweet lady - still has loads of spunk!

I went to turn on my computer yesterday and have an error message that my "Desktop" is corrupt. This is where I file "everything". Man I hate technology!. Everything that was there is gone - but Internet Explorer and the Recycle Bin. UGH!

I am getting my Bachelorette fix this evening. I don't know what I am going to do when it is over! I am very disappointed she didn't pick Reid last week and I am going to miss seeing him on the TV each week (how sad is that!). The "boards" have confirmed she ends up with Ed. He wasn't my fav but then I am not picking! (PS... the boards are kind of like "they"... who are "they" anyhow!)

I know, I know... you haven't come here to hear about my rants, ramblings and reviews on the Bachelorette (or any other reality TV show). So onto the Card....

I know we all have "quirks".... one of my "things" is.... I can't sit down and let my mind go unless the house is clean, the laundry is done, yard it mowed, etc. etc. etc. Lets just say I am a wee bit of a neat freak and can't relax til things are taken care of.

I have been trying to take Fridays off in the Summer and since the weather this weekend was nothing short of "rained out", I was able to get all the chores done on Friday. Saturday I held a "Classic Christmas Cards In July" Class. The ladies went home with some beautiful creations and lots of inspiration. So today I sat down and did my thing.

I have been asked to do some cards for a Wedding Shower (it isn't til next July). The bride had specific colours and style in mind (something seen in a Bridal magazine). I came up with a prototype to show them tomorrow. The colour combination got me thinking so I made some cards for me using the same colours and same stamp set.

and because we all know I can never make just "one" card.... here are two more....

Advent Calendar - Finally Finished

I am famous for "unfinished" projects. Well folks - not this time. I couldn't rest until I finished up the Advent Calendar. I had a heck of a time coming up with something to put the numbers on. It had to be thick enough so the numbers would last "forever" but not so bulky that all the numbers didn't fit on the hook. I tried using Balsa wood but it was a pain to paint and I didn't get clean edges. I ended up using some SU "Glossy white paper" and spray glued two pieces together. There are numbers on both sides. Since I "lost" the dot in the exclamation point I used a Swarovski Hot Fix Chrystal in its place.

Christmas Advent Calendar - Stampin Up Decor Elements

I have been MIA this past week - life got in the way of stamping and a blogging. It was budget time at work (deadline is tomorrow). I have a hard enough time doing my personal budget never mind doing one for our department at work. It is done though - I like getting that off my plate each year. Speaking of budgets - it is official - I am broke - but in a good way. My trip to Italy has been paid for. I still have 3 months to wait but there is no turning back now and I can start to get excited.

This weekend I have made up for my lack of creativity. I have some classes coming up this Friday and Saturday. Everything has been cut, sorted and separated. I can't wait to show the ladies some new techniques.

Now what I am really excited about and spent most of my weekend working on. I remember when I went to Convention last year - the one "demonstration" that I oooohed and awwwwwed about was an Advent Calendar. I remember sitting beside my travel mate and roomie (Hi Jamilla - I finally made it - a year later!) and telling her - I have to try that. It isn't finished yet but I couldn't wait to show everyone (yes I am worse than a kid at Christmas). I need to adhere the boxes to the board and finish off the date numbers. There will be a cup hook that will go in the middle and the numbers are on Balsa Wood with a hole punched at the top to go on the cup hook. I also lost the dot on the exclamation point so need to fix that as well. I was contemplating teaching this as a class - but the cost factor and prep time is enormous. I am going to give this to my niece for her family. Each of the little boxes will have treats inside. I couldn't find the boxes that were used in the demo so I used ring boxes. No word of a lie - by the time this is finished (without treats), it will be over $100.00 to make. I am happy it turned out how I envisioned it. I will post the final picture when it is all done.

Sometimes you should just give up on a card. I "thought" I had a creative idea this evening so while watching The Bachelorette I gave it a shot. Lets call this a "work in progress". I will give it another shot when I feel more creative.

I think watching the Bachelorette ticked me off and squished my creative energy (that is my excuse anyhow!). OMG - WES IS SLIME! I like Reid and think they are cute together. We will find out in 3 weeks if she finds "Happily Ever After".

Wow... another weekend has come and gone. It was an "unproductive" weekend for me and I could kick myself. I was not motivated at all. I am still looking for a bathroom mirror. I have bought two so far, tried them both out and have packaged them up to be returned. Who would have thought that finding the right bathroom mirror would be so difficult. It has me stumped.

I need a birthday card this week and resurrected the Voila stamp set. I had done one previously like this and loved the colour combination. So here it is again.

Something too cute - I have great neighbours. One neighbour's little girl came over yesterday afternoon (she is 3 and yes she was with her mom). She asked if I could come out to play with her. I am 50! She ended up coming in and her and I sat at the kitchen table doing crafts. Her mom came back for her a while later. Isn't that cute?

Upsy Daisy - a "generic" card

I went into work today after having Wednesday and Thursday off and it was like a ghost town. With Wednesday being a holiday, a good chunk of people took Thursday and Friday off. I was silly not to take Friday off as well. The weekend is here again though so I can't complain.

Here is a card I did last night (and it is not a Christmas card). I like to make cards that are "generic". That way when I sell them, they can fit into almost any need. I used the Upsy Daisy set and the butterfly is from Dreams du Jour. I will be honest - when I first saw Stampin Up's new "In Colours" I wasn't impressed. All I could think was - a whole year of these colours - ugh! I am starting to warm to them. The card stock on this card is "Crushed Curry" and Basic Black. The image was stamped with So Saffron, then I added some of the Crushed Curry ink to the flowers to give it some umph. Of course I had to add a wee bit of glitter. It is a pretty basic card and fits my "generic" bill.

Another Punch Pals Christmas Card

Here is another Christmas card using the Punch Pals set. (I know - enough with Christmas). The scalloped frame is from SU and glittered to the max. It is a really simple card to do - but working with glitter is messy! I don't know if it is just me - but the glitter ends up everywhere.

Question of the Day?
So why is it when you get a mosquito or fly in the house it always ends up buzzing around your head? The counter top guys were here to install the bathroom counter top (and yes I love it). But.. at one point they left the front door open. A mosquito got in (I am not good with bugs!) and no matter where I went I could see and hear it buzzing around my head and ears. I eventually swatted the crap out of it - but it took a while. I was kind of like one of those mad women, flinging her arms around, swatting the dish towel and doing a crazy dance. I am sure the counter top guys thought I was nuts.

Punch Pals, Top Note Gift Card Holder

Can you believe it is July 1st and I am posting more Christmas. This time it is a Gift Card holder using the Punch Pals set and the Top Note Die.

This is a pretty quick gift card holder to put together. I like how the paper is torn and sparkled to look like snow.

If someone were to ask me what Accessory I consider to be a "Must Have" from the Catalogue it would be the Top Note Die. I love products that are versatile. I have seen it used for bags, cards, loot bag toppers, Christmas Tags, etc. and for every holiday and occasion.

So today was the start of the new catalogue. I have an order worked up and saved, but want to sleep on it before I hit the submit button - after all - I am "suppose" to be saving for my trip to Italy. I will probably take another look at it in the morning, remove some items (no - I won't add anything new) and then submit. I "need" supplies for some upcoming classes (to be scheduled). At least that is my justification :)

One of the cards I made yesterday (well I made 5 of them) was this "Thinking of You" card. When you see this card beside yesterday's card it just goes to show how one stamp set can be so versatile. Heck - even the layout is similar - but the colours used make them look so totally different. The sentiment on today's card is from Teeny Tiny Wishes (from the new catalogue - July 1st is just around the corner).

The papers, brads and ribbon used are from my stash of SU supplies.

I need someone to slap me. Why do I get hooked on the Bachelorette/Bachelor show every season. I just finished watching tonight's episode.

The logical side of my brain (sometimes I use it) knows that most of this show is staged, scenarios are set up for the "Drama", most of the guys are there for their 15 minutes of fame and as some reports claim - they guys are paid for their appearance.

Then there is the "Dreamy" side of my brain (I am a Pisces after all), and I believe that the Knight in shining armour will ride up on his white horse, rescue the princess and they will live in a house with a white picket fence - happily ever after. Darn it.....I am going with the Dreamy side of my brain and a happily ever after.... but why does she keep picking Wes!.

What a productive weekend. I love taking Friday's off in the summer. Gives me that head start on the weekend. I was able to get a lot of unfinished jobs done around the house. You know those projects that you start and never quite finish. One was about 3 years old and bugged me every time I walked by it. Once I got around to doing them - it took maybe 3 hours in total and they were done. It is a nice feeling.

My mind was free today to sit and be creative. I ended up making 20 cards for my spinner rack at work - it was starting to get thin.

Lovely as a Tree (again)

What a gorgeous day here. I am getting ready to run my Saturday errands but wanted to show you yet another Lovely As a Tree card. This is a total CASE of msbmom2’s card (HERE). The picture of her tree turned out more sparkly – I couldn’t get my picture to show the sparkles. I love how it turned out.

My bathroom will be “kind of” finished this week. The countertop is ready and will be installed on Thursday. I have been working on this since last winter. I had to get a cabinet made (because of plumbing), then had to wait for “Handyman Dan” (he is booked 4 months in advance). Now the countertop is ready. My house (especially the bathroom) is tiny. So I had the countertop elongated to go over the toilet. Here is the kicker though – the guys installing the countertop “won’t” hook up the plumbing. A friend is going to do it for me, but is out of town next week. So while the bathroom will look functional – I still won’t be able to use the sink :(. I guess I can wait a few more days for him to do the hook up. Today I hope to find a shower curtain, accessories, etc. Wish me luck.

Christmas in July - Lovely as a Tree

I am holding a Christmas in July class next month and just finished off the samples of the 4 cards we will be doing. I am worse than a kid at Christmas. I have been taking the cards to work each day to show everyone and I got the thumbs up on all of them - and this is from the men as well. I want to share one of the cards with you. There are many versions of this on Splitcoast - I can't credit just one person. It is using Lovely as a Tree and the masking technique.

The class I am doing is called "Classic Christmas Cards" and all the cards are done using Lovely as a Tree (except for the sentiments) with Mellow Moss and Always Artichoke. There are loads of techniques in this class - I am hoping the ladies will come away inspired and see how one stamp set can be so versatile.

I just finished dinner and thought I really should share this recipe. Dinner consisted of Chicken (pretty basic) but I also had a Strawberry Salad with it. I promise (hand on heart) that if you like Strawberries you will love this recipe.

One head Romaine lettuce
One head Red lettuce
1 purple onion (chopped)
1 quart strawberries (chopped)

Mix this all together.

Dressing:

1/3 cup milk (I use 1% but it could be 2%)
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp white vinegar
1/2 cup Helman's Mayo

Mix this up together real well. The "original" recipe also calls for Poppy Seeds. But, when I had my braces they were a pain - so I dropped the poppy seeds.

If you want you can put the dressing on the salad - but I usually keep it in a separate bowl and add it when I have the salad. I can (and do) eat this every day.

Note - sometimes (often) when I don't want to buy two head of lettuce I just use one type or get a pre-cut package. It is DELICIOUS! PROMISE!

OK... now on to why some of you visit my blog - Card du Jour. Unfortunately this set (Wagon Full of Fun) is another stamp set that is in LaLaLand. It was in the Mini but didn't make it to the Catty. The sentiment is from the new Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Stampin Up - Big Bold Cupcakes and more Sneak Peaks

One of the cards I made on the weekend was using the Big Bold Cupcakes Die. It is one of Stampin Up's exclusive dies and can be found in the new catalogue on page 197. This is a carry-over from last year's catalogue. I have had this a while but (like so many other things) had not yet used it. (Note to self - stop buying and start using - yeh right!).

The new "stuff" on this card includes:

The new Stampin Up Punch - Modern Label (page 187)
The new Movers and Shaper's Die for Modern Label (page 201). This fits under the punch perfectly.
The "Happy Birthday" is from the brand spanking new set Teeny Tiny Wishes (page 145). I love this set - there are 24 sentiments from Retirement, Sympathy, Mother's Day, etc. It covers it all.

I am watching the Bachelorette - Up til now I was thinking it was either going to be Kiptin or Jesse. Now I am not sure - Jake is opening up (OK and he is a cutie). I can say for sure - Wes is a weasel and has to go. And well the Foot Fetish guy is just plain odd!

Update: She let Jake go over the breakdancer and Wes! OK.. she is nuts!

More Soft Summer

Summer finally has arrived - not just by the calendar but also by the temperature. It was beautiful out. For those of us who experience the four seasons - summer can never come soon enough and is always too short.

Here is the "warped" side of me. What did I do on the first day of Summer - I made Christmas cards. I am hopping to have a Christmas in July class and wanted to get some samples done. I am waiting for July 1 when I can order some of the Christmas DSP to incorporate into the cards. Right now - I have two cards and a gift card holder done. They are pretty cute (more whimsical than classic). I will hold off posting them until they are totally done.

In the meantime - here is the complete Soft Summer set. If this set is on the Dormant List (therfore not retired) - I will schedule this class as well. Keep your fingers crossed.

Speaking of the Dormant List - I finally went through all my SU stamps and cleaned out was is not in the new catalogue. Whoa - I have a lot. When the Dormant List is released on July 1st I will pull those stamp sets out of the box.

In the past I have sold my retired stamps, put them on e-bay etc. This time I am going to do something different. It will take a bit of organizing, but will let you know - unfortunately it will only be good for those in Canada. More to come.

Christmas Punch - New Stampin Up Hostess Set

There are many perks to being a Stampin Up Demonstrator. A few of my favs are getting the catalogue before everyone else and getting to purchase a few selected items before the catalogue goes into effect. We were allowed to purchase one item from the Level 2 Hostess sets and one item from the Level 3 Hostess sets. Well ladies when you get your catalogue check out the sample on Page 14 (Canadian Catalogue - not sure what page it is on in the US).

Here is my version.

This is using the set Christmas Punch. It co-ordinates with quite a few of SU's punches. On the back of each tag there is a "To" and "From". I also put in silver cord for each of the tags. The samples in this year's Catalogue are inspiring. Each time I go through it I find something new.(Note - the ribbon and DSP are from last year's catty - I have to wait til July 1 to order the current stuff.)

What a great day I had. I got up early, exercised (yeh!), did my grocery shopping, mowed the lawn, fertilized the lawn, cleaned off the driveway, a friend came over for lunch (well - he was doing something for me in the bathroom - I bribed him with lunch) and got to sit down and be creative. I love being home.

It is suppose to rain all day tomorrow - here is hoping for some more inspiration.

A Little Something for Dear Old Dad

Paper crafting for men can be challenging - birthday cards, father's day cards, gift ideas. It is usually the women in the family that benefit from our hand-crafted items. I found this loot bag done by Weekend Warrior (click HERE) Now tell me - isn't that a great idea for Dear Old Dad or any man in your life. All the better if he is a golfer. With a different sentiment you could also do something similar with fishing stuff (oohhh what a neat idea).

Here are my Golf Loot Bags. I know diddly squat about golf and had no idea that golf balls can be so expensive. I used SU's DSP, the Top Note Die, and the sentiment from And Many Mower. You can't see from the pictures but there are three golf balls in clear bags inside each pouch.

Stampin Up "In Colours" Ribbon Share

I was with a friend last week who "hinted" that maybe I should do a Ribbon Share using SU's new "In Colours".

Giving it some thought and doing the math - I realized it is a great way to get the "In Colours" without breaking the bank.

Hopefully these are all the details you need - but if there are any questions let me know at elizgreen@rogers.com.

You will receive 3 yards of each of the Polka Dot "In Colours" 1/2 inch Grosgrain Ribbon (total of 18 yards). Colours are shown above (Soft Suede, Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Dusty Durango and Rich Razzleberry).

Cost $20.00 (Canadian). This is inclusive of all taxes and shipping is on me.

I won't be able to place the order until July 1st and should have the order no later than July 15th (leaving a bit of buffer for the July 1st catalogue rush and holidays). The orders will be turned around immediately and back out to everyone who signs up. Note: This is good for Canada only.

Someone Get Me A Drink!

I had great intentions today of getting some stamping and cards done but ended up spending over 5 hours on the phone with my ISP, Dell and Linksys. My laptop (wireless) worked fine last night but this morning nothing. The problem was finally narrowed down to a Windows update that occurred last night that interfered with my laptop internet connection (VISTA!). I ended up having to do a system restore to one day last week - before the windows update. Talk about a frustrating afternoon - I think I need a drink!

I was able to get one Father's Day card done. I found one on Splitcoast that I loved done by Pam (click HERE). Here is my CASE of her card. The set used was "And Many Mower". The paper is left over from a couple of catty's ago. The colours are So Saffron, Chocolate Chip and Sage Shadow. It is finished off with chocolate Chip ribbon and the large grommets.

Soft Summer and thoughts on the New Catalogue

I have gone through the catalogue a few times and have many pages flagged. Some of the samples are beautiful. There is a different look and feel to the catalogue. I will admit - I am kind of surprised at the stamp sets that didn't make it into the catalogue and some of the ones that have stayed. I am hoping when the "Dormant List" is issued on July 1 - some of the sets that are not in the catalogue will appear there. I wish that SU would have made the catalogue larger and do away with the Dormant List - especially since they have gone back to one catalogue a year.

One of the sets that didn't make it to the Catalogue is "Soft Summer". Here is a card using this set. I hope it at least makes it to the Dormant List.

Here I am sitting at work. I just checked the status of my latest SU order - and it has been delivered. Why am I excited... because it not only includes Customer goodies, but there are some preview items (including new In Colour stuff) and the brand spanking new Catalogue.

I can't wait to get home. I might order a pizza or something so I don't have to waste time making dinner. Home - lounge wear - take out - glass of wine - post it notes and the new Catalogue. What a night!

Another Choo Choo Card

I have seen mixed reports as to whether this set made it from the Spring Occasion Mini into the new catalogue. I will have to wait til Wednesday to find out (unless someone already has the new catty and can confirm for sure). Talk about a creative rut - after making this card I realized I did one almost identical (colour wise) earlier. OOps.... guess it is a good thing I need lots of kid's cards.

To Have and To Hold - on the Retired List

I "think" this stamp set was inked once by me but I never did make a card. Then a dear friend Ellen borrowed it and made some beautiful wedding cards that were inspiring. Now that the set has hit the retirement list and will no longer be available after July 1st, I thought I should make at least one card. Here is my take on To Have and To Hold.

I embossed the white with white embossing powder and the swirls from the set. Cardstock is Black, Rose Red, Whisper White. Flowers are Rose Red. I used some of the hot fix crystals (fom Swarovski) for the hair and a few flowers). The top of the dress is a light bashful blue, the suit is black and the bowtie is Bashful Blue,

I stamped the sentiment inside the frame then cut out the frame and popped it up with dimensionals.

The end is near - since last November I have been having work done in my upstairs bathroom. Keep in mind - it is me picking out stuff and a local Handyman doing the work. However Handyman Dan (yes that is his name) is a very busy guy. He is booked up months in advance. Well Wednesday he came over and installed the cabinet and light fixture, and removed the mirror that was glued to the wall - and yes he repaired the wall. Yesterday I painted the room. On Monday the countertop people are coming in to measure. Once that is made and installed, I will be able to put all the junk back into the bathroom. It is amazing - for the smallest area in the house we sure do gather a lot of "stuff". It is all piled up in a spare bedroom but I can't wait til it is done and I can get the house put back together. That is going to be the last project for a while.

Kris is the idol. My fav. I know it was an upset and everyone expected Adam to win, but I think he was just a bit too "out there" for most people (myself included). I am a happy camper. I loved the song Kris sang with Keith Urban. I hope it is available to download.

Here is a card using the "Voila" stamp set from Stampin Up. This was one of those stamps that I Had to Have.. but never used. I finally inked it on the weekend. I think it may end up on the "retirement list" come June 1 (just a guess on my part). The paper used is some leftover DSP that came in a Hostess Level I pack. I stamped the image and then cut it out and glued it onto the DSP. I then stamped the hat again and popped it up with some dimensionals.

American Idol Voting

Well I wanted to vote for Kris but finally gave up. I have been trying since the show ended and the numbers are busy, busy, busy. I have never voted before - maybe you can't call from Canada. Not sure.

I guess you could say I was "punch happy" on the weekend. Here is another card I did but this time using the Heart to Heart punch from Stampin Up. I originally saw this card done in pinks around Valentine's Day. I can't remember whose site I saw it on - probably Dawn's Stampin Thoughts. This one is done in the Baja Breeze In Colour cardstock. I think the DSP retired last year (it was a winter pattern).

I have finally started to feel more like myself this weekend. I had a few dizzy spells last weekend and it turns out that I have (on the mend) a sinus infection that has gone into my ear. The Dr believes that the dizziness was a bit of vertigo. I will be honest - it freaked me out. Now I know why I was not feeling well and unbelievably tired.

Alas... the meds have kicked in and I got a lot of rest. I am back to blogging, visiting my fellow Ocean's 11 Group and most of all - making cards. You know something is not right when you don't want to create.

I was playing today with nothing special in mind and came up with this card. You can't see from the picture, but the bottom right hand corner I punched out a star. On the inside I put one of the small stars behind it.

Hi all

I have been a bit under the weather the last few days and haven't had the gumption to do much - even cards. I felt a bit better this evening and decided to play with some "Father's Day" ideas. I know - Mother's Day is tomorrow and here I am thinking Father's Day.

So the latest "find" on the old family tree. I came across a site called Nova Scotia Genealogy. It was like opening up a treasure chest. I found birth, death and marriage certificates for so many relatives. My mom's sister was thrilled when she received a copy of her parent's marriage certificate in the mail. I couldn't resist sending it to her. The search continues.

Here is the box to hold the four cards I posted over the last week and a picture of all of them together. I sold 3 sets of them at work today. I am lucky to have a great boss who doesn't mind me doing transactions at my desk. I even have a spinner rack on my desk to hang my cards.

We had some bad news on Friday - my niece lost her baby. I made her a special card this evening to send off to her. I am sure it will take her a bit to get back to her usual self. In the meantime they can dote on the beautiful baby boy they already have.

Where oh where do the weekends go?

I can't believe that it is Sunday night already. Where do the weekends go? Last year I chose to break down my vacation by taking every Friday off work during the summer. I loved it. I need to keep 2 weeks for my trip at the end of September, but I may be taking some Friday's off again this year. Anything for a 3 day weekend :)

The card today is the last of the set of 4. I will post the Card box tomorrow. I ended up making 10 sets of this design. They are all wrapped in cellophane and ready to take to work tomorrow to sell. The good thing - while I am selling them as Mother's Day gifts they can be for birthday, thinking of you etc. So if I don't sell them all by Friday, I will keep them around for other occasions.

Is everyone ready for the weekend?

I have been doing more work on the old family tree this evening and can't believe how quickly the time has flown. I have my Aunt (my mom's sister) calling all the relatives in Nova Scotia for information on my mom's side. Hopefully it will fill in lots of the blanks. On my dad's side I was able to trace back to the 1700's (thanks to lots of family tree history in England).

Anyhow... Here is the 3rd card in the set of 4. I had taken the set to work to show the ladies and schedule the upcoming classes. I had the flyer ready to go when the men at work started asking if I would have the sets available for Mother's Day. There goes the class for now. I will have to put in another supply order and reschedule the classes.

Memories are Precious

I love playing solitaire. Of course now I play solitaire on the computer (yeh - POGO.COM). But before computers I would even play the "old fashioned way" - you know with an actual deck of cards. It is something that I picked up from my mom. I remember as a child the family ritual on a Saturday night would be to gather in the living room and watch Hockey Night in Canada. Both my mom and dad were big Leaf fans. However, my mom always had a TV tray in front of her and would be playing Solitaire. We really are a product of our environment. Bottom line - Memories are precious - don't forget to make some.

You would think...

You would think that missing for a week I would have lots to report. Afraid not. Work and life got in the way of blogging and "carding" (is that a word?). I actually got de-motivated with all the special orders and had to take a break. I make cards (mostly) because I love it - but sometimes when you are under the gun to get things done it takes the pleasure out of it.

Many years ago I use to have a booth at a Consignment Store (Crafter's Marketplace - don't know if they are still around). It was general crafts, dolls, wreaths, stitched crafts, etc. I did very well, but when I ended up bringing my nieces over to stay for a weekend and do "production line assembly" I realized there was no more joy in doing it and when my rental agreement was up I left. At least with Stampin Up - you can take a break whenever you want - there is no six month contract to sign.

Tonight I "forced" myself to stay up and make some cards. One of the good things about Stampin Up's Demo site are the samples. I made a set tonight (thanks to Melissa Stout for the design). This is the first card in the set. I will post the other three cards and box over the next week. I am also thinking about doing this as a class. If you are local stay tuned. I was very happy with the set. The box is adorable.

Did you watch Idol. I think Adam is going to win but I think he is more suited to the theatre. I still like Kris Allen the bestest and he is a cutie.

And speaking of Reality TV - did you see the Apprentice on Sunday night. Whoa - what was that all about. I don't think Melissa should have been fired but she kind of went nutso - then her mother quit. Talk about drama!

Great Aunt - Again

Well Dear Readers...

I had a call from my niece this evening to let me know that I am going to be a Great Aunt again. Whoo-hooo! I keep telling her I am not old enough but I guess she isn't listening. She knew when we were all together on Sunday for her first baby's Baptism but didn't want to take the spotlight away from his day. This will be a "close to" Christmas baby. I have about a year to "Master" the Baptism card that took six hours to make on Saturday!

I have been busy finishing off some special card orders. The WW cards are done and I am now working on a stash of the Flower Pot cards (plus a couple of special requests). This time they are generic (don't say Mother's Day). All of the ones I took to work last week have sold. They were a huge hit.

So I am cheating on posting a card. There is a section on the Stampin Up Customer site for Projects. It is a great resource for ideas. This is one of the cards that was posted using the Cheers to You set.

More cards for the WW Group

Yeppers... I am still working on the cards for the Weight Watchers group. Two have already reached their goal and received cards a few weeks back and I think there are three more that have reached (or are close). These cards are to add to the "stash".

I am trying to use up non SU paper (it will take me forever to use it up) so these cards are a mix of SU and generic paper.

For anyone curious - I had joined the WW group the first round to loose 10 lbs (this was before Christmas). I did really well and lost 7 lbs. Then Christmas happened and yes - I put it all back on. I didn't join the group on the second session and have been "trying" to loose the 10 lbs on my own. Dang it is hard. Go figure - Cookies are high in points. When you only have 18 points a day to use up - it is hard to have a balanced meal and include Cookies! And by the way - who can eat only a few plain perogies!

I spent yesterday at my Great Nephew's baptism. My family live about an hour away and the church service was at 10:00 am so I was up and out early and didn't get back til late - so no cards (or post) yesterday. Hopefully my niece will send me a few pictures for me to post (silly me forgot my camera). All went well - he is a cute baby and was so good - especially during the service.

We have a Weight Watchers group at work and I was asked to make a stash of cards that the organizer can send to everyone that reaches their goal. The "Riley" stamp I have of him standing on the scale is a perfect fit. I started tonight to make the cards. I will make them in an assortment of colours and designs.

Baptism Card - 6 hours later

I had bought the Cricut Design Studio Software before Christmas but had never used it. So today when I was thinking of a card to make for my Great Nephew's Baptism I thought I would pull it out. It took me all "bleeping" day to do this. Every time I tried to make a cut I would get a pop-up message that the Firmware needed to be updated. So I would update the firmware and make a cut. Of course I was trying different sizes, tried to make a smaller version to fit inside to cover the brads, etc. So there were a lot of Firmware updates!! Then I wanted to "try" the center cut, so I used my computer to do the sentiment then centered the blade, hit center cut and the dang thing would cut somewhere totally different. I finally gave up on the center cut but swear I am going to master the Cricut Design Studio and Expression.

Bottom line - I finished the Baptism card 6 hours later - YES this little thing took 6 hours. Looking at it, I think the ribbon needs to be lower but I don't want to fiddle with it anymore. I figure 6 hours is enough on one card.

Women and Exercise

This is totally non-crafting however it is funny. I received it three times today at work (is there a hidden message somewhere) and thought you ladies would like a giggle to end your week. Hands up to all who can relate!

A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM
This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my Husband (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god - with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skilful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying..

My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other shit too.

THURSDAY:
Asshole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late - it took me that long to tie my shoes.

He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny bitch to find me.

Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.

FRIDAY:
I hate that bastard Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anaemic, anorexic little aerobics instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.

Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich..

SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY:
I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun -- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

The world is getting smaller and a Mother's Day Card

A while back I had posted that I found a relative living in France (thanks to Ancestry.com). Well today she e-mailed me some pictures that her mother had (our grandmother's were sisters). One of the pictures she sent is a picture of my grandmother holding my oldest sister when she was an infant (my sister is now 60). Now..I had already seen this picture before so it wasn't new but what I find amazing is that on the other side of the world is someone that we didn't even know existed and she has a picture of my sister. The world is getting smaller.

Stampin Up - On a Pedestal

When I got home tonight there was a present in my mailbox from Stampin Up. It is a new stamp set that will be in the next catalogue - called On a Pedestal. If you had a workshop order above a certain $$ value within two weeks of Regionals - SU sent you this set free. I was too excited to play with this - only one problem, I forgot my glasses at work.

So here is a quick card that may be a wee bit slanted.

One of the swaps I received at the Regionals held in London last month was from Elizabeth Ng. I loved her card and wanted to CASE it. It has taken a while - but here it is. Her card used a sentiment from a different stamp set - but I chose to use one of the sentiments that came with the set. I haven't used the Pocket Silhouettes set very often but it inks up really well. You may be seeing more samples with it.

Mother's Day Card

It seems that one holiday is not even over yet and we start making cards for the next occasion. I remember when I worked part-time at Michaels - one season fell on top of the next. Christmas would be still a week away and the first "Spring" truck would arrive full of flowers, valentines and Easter. Life is going by just so fast.

I was looking for some unique ideas for Mother's Day cards (May 10th for us in Canada) and saw this cards on Diana Gibbs' blog (one of my favourite blogs by the way) HERE. She graciously linked to Stephanie's Blog (HERE) where you can find the tutorial. This creative community is amazing. I love how everyone shares what they create and I always try to give credit as to where I find something.

Anyhow, Mother's Day was one of my biggest sellers last year at work. I have already had some of the young guys ask when I would have cards. It is a large Engineering firm of mostly guys - so I guess me selling cards makes their lives easier.

Here is my Mother's Day Flower Pot card. Yes I am going to make more but just wanted to share (and it really simple to make).

I am Crazy for Cupcakes

I have a few favourite sets from SU's current catalogue and one of them is Crazy for Cupcakes. I have more than got my money's worth from this set. There are lots of layers to this card and balloons on the inside. I had strings hanging from the balloons but it looked very busy, so I ditched the strings.

Hey Kim - you are looking for a pop-up cake. I tried it once and wasn't thrilled by it. Mine didn't seem to pop up very well and didn't look "clean" (even, lined up, etc. - remember I am a ruler girl). I am going to have to play with it again - but it is very fiddly. If you want to borrow it, just yell.

I have a Lesson Learned for you all. Keep your drinks away from your crafting area. I guess it was a good excuse to tidy up - but I knocked over a half empty (or full) coffee. It was getting cold and I should have moved it but nooooo..... It seeped into everything, the sugar in the coffee made my desk sticky and cold coffee stinks! The only thing that was ruined though was the outer shell for my SU Markers. I had to cut the colour chart off and hang it up to dry - the rest of the base was ruined.

And lastly, when I was in high school I had a choice of taking French or Italian as a second language. I think French is mandatory now but back then we had a choice. I went to school in a predominantly Italian neighbourhood in downtown Toronto and wanted to fit in - so I took Italian. I think I can still count to ten and say some general greetings but that is about it now. So I headed to Chapters and bought a set of tapes on Italian for travelers. I have 5 months to learn how say, "How Much" and "Where are the toilets". I figure these are the two most important phrases to learn.

Stampin Up's Choo, Choo - A work in progress

This is so "out of the box" for me. I am not into the primary colours. I had bought Stampin Up's Choo Choo set (out of the Spring Mini) along with the co-ordinating wheel. I decided to play with it this evening. It started out as a Double Slider Card (instructions HERE), but ended up as a Single Slider card. This is a work in progress. After finishing the card and looking at it, I think the Caboose should be on the inside. I will try and play with it again tomorrow. I am surprised that there were no cute sentiments that went with this set. "All-Aboard", "Choo, Choo", etc.

It was such a beautiful day here. I spent part of the day cleaning up the back and front. It looks so nice when you get rid of the winter debris.

It is all about left-overs

I made an amazing chicken stir-fry yesterday. I had used a Toasted Sesame vinaigrette (new for me) and it was delicious. I couldn't wait to get home tonight to have the left overs.

And tonight you are all getting leftovers as well. Just not as delicious. I had made this card earlier in the week when I did the other one like this. And well... It just doesn't "thrill" me. The question is... what do you do with cards that you just "don't like". Do you actually use them? Take them apart and rework them? Toss them out? If I love a card or technique, I usually make one for my file/records. But the cards I don't like also go into another pile - and it is growing!

So you may be thinking "why post it"?. Cuz folks I was lazy tonight. I had no gumption to make a card to post, so ... you are getting left-overs.

Kris Allen on AI

This is a totally non-card or papercrafting post. You know I am a fan of American Idol and my favourite this season (while I don't think he will win) is Kris Allen. Well I figured it out. He reminds me of Michael Callan. Michael was an actor/singer from the 50's/60's (I think he is still around) and appeared in Gidget goes Hawaiian, Cat Ballou and a whole slew of other movies and TV shows. Whenever I would see Kris interviewed on AI I couldn't help but think that he reminded me of someone - especially when he spoke. Well tonight when I was watching him being interviewed it hit me.

Here is the side by side comparison. What do you think? I think it is the mouth, heck even the nose, eyes and hair.

CASE of a Regional Swap

I had posted a card back in March that I received from Rose Murphy (check labels on the right hand side under "Friend"). I loved how she stamped the elephant image on some DSP and then paper pieced it on top. The stamp set is SU's Happy Heart Day - and well, it is not my favourite stamp set. To be honest I don't think I ever made a card with this stamp set. I have had Roses' card sitting on my desk since Regionals waiting to case it and tonight I finally got a chance. This came together super quick and easy. The set is still not my favourite but I like how the card turned out.

I am watching the Idol results show and OMG Frankie Avalon still looks amazing. I was a big Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello fan (before my time but loved watching the old Beach Party movies) and Venus was one of my favourite songs.

Resizing your envelopes

I had a few people ask about resizing envelopes to fit smaller cards - this one is for you Holly.

Take a regular medium envelope and lick the back closed.
Put your envelope in your paper trimmer with the top of the envelope at the top of the trimmer (you will be trimming the side).
Trim the side of the envelope to whatever size you want (the seam at the back of the envelope will now go vertically instead of horizontally).
Take some DSP (I usually use the same or co-ordinating paper that I used on the card) and cut it 2" x however long the envelope opening is.
Score it in half and use your corner rounder punch to trim the front (and back if you want).
Glue the front of the DSP to the front of the envelope.
Use the two way glue pen and add glue to the back of the flap but don't adhere it down - let it fully dry. This will now be repositional and you can seal the envelope.

It really comes in handy for those smaller cards. If you have an odd-sized larger card you can also do the same thing but with larger envelopes.

Easter - Baby - Easter - Baby, etc. etc

This card started off life as an Easter card. I had coloured the image then started pulling the DSP paper together and when I looked at the card I didn't see Easter anymore - I saw baby. I am short on Baby cards at work so will add this to my stash to sell.

I am trying to watch Idol, Dancing with the Stars and Biggest Looser at the same time. It isn't working out though. I set biggest looser to tape and will watch it after the others are over.

Some random thoughts:
If I get a spray-tan will I have a body like the dancers on Dancing with the Stars?
Whoa - the naked neighbour!
I hope they bring back the junior dancers (the little guys) - they are too cute to watch.
It is time for Ron to go on the Biggest Looser. I have had enough of him. (He has mean eyes!)
I don't think Kris picked a great song this week.

and finally.... the H&M Commercials are addictive yet annoying. Not sure if they are airing in the US, but they are airing them A LOT up here. How many versions are there? I love the simplicity, red/white background, but have no idea what they are selling. They are catchy though in an annoying kind of way.

Snow, snow Go Away

Well it is April and we should be saying Rain, Rain Go Away but in the great white north we are changing that to Snow, Snow Go Away. I have already had the winter tires taken off my car and put the shovel away. I am putting my foot down though - I am refusing to shovel. So there!

It is funny how productive you can be when you don't nap when you get home from work. I finished off some more Easter cards. I didn't have envelopes the right size, so I cut down some other envelopes and made flaps with the DS paper that I used on the card. They turned out cute. This idea was from one of the swaps I received at regional. I needed magnets for the flap so I found round discs for the top flap and then magnetic tape to put under the DSP. Yes, they have magnetic tape. It is thin like regular tape so you can't tell it is under the paper. I found it at M's. Of course I can never make just one card - here they all are.

If you have gotten this far - I am too excited. I found a ladies group (they are married and husbands don't travel, divorced, widowed and single) that plan trips from Toronto to various places throughout the world. Well they have a trip to Tuscany for 10 days in September. I signed up for the trip today. There are 12 women from ages 45 - 60 on the trip. There are cooking classes, wine tasting and tours in the Chianti region and in and around Florence. I had hoped for a trip that included Rome but couldn't find anything in/out of Toronto. I am "thinking hard" about staying on a few days after the tour to spend it in Rome. I would be on my own though and am not 100% sure about that. I need to do some more investigating. Overall though - too exciting! I will be saving my pennies and hopefully selling lots of cards to help fund the trip.

Turner Classic Movies and some Cards

I was in my element this afternoon. TCM had some good movies on - "Roustabout", "Yours, Mine and Ours" and "April in Paris" is on next. I love the old movies.

I wasn't as productive as I hoped making cards. I do have a bunch of Easter Cards partially made but need to stop at M's tomorrow to pick up some magnets. I will check out the Dollar store first.

This is my card for last week's challenge for the Ocean's Eleven blogger group. We were to do something Clean and Simple. I used Stampin Up's Fresh Note cards. I did a bunch of them for Easter. These make great gift cards. They really couldn't be easier to do - the cards come already cut and scored, you pop out the petals and you have a card. I put a piece of DSP behind the petal and stamped the Happy Easter on the front. Easy Peasy.

Today' card is using one of the stamp sets out of the new Occasions Mini Catalogue - Scene in a Garden. I love this image and the rain boots. I popped up the rain boots and stack of pots. The other images that come with the set are a vase, birdhouse, little bird and set of pumpkins. The pumpkins on the bench would make an adorable Fall or Thanksgiving card. I also used the Scallop Oval Punch which is also in the mini. To see the rest of the items in the mini you can check the link over on the left hand side of the blog. April Showers...

Well I know that April Showers brings May flowers - but enough already - it can STOP! It has rained all day.

I came home from work tonight, cleaned the house and got caught up on the laundry. I even cleaned up my craft room. I have some errands to run tomorrow but once I have done those it will be me and my stamps for the rest of the weekend. Some people don't understand but I am so content and happy when I can sit down with my ink. I plug in movies (usually Elvis, Gidget or old Doris Day movies), get my cup of coffee and stamp away.

This evening's card is a very quick and simple birthday card.

Too Stinkin Cute - well at least I think so.

Since I found my "Unfrogettable Card" I finally got the one made that I need for tomorrow. One of the ladies at work needed a card for a little boy and well, I think this turned out Too Stinkin Cute. I used buttons instead of a bow (since it is for a boy) and the inside I stamped grass and then put in some jumping froggies. I love it when an idea turns out. At first I was going to leave the inside plain and then I decided to put in the frogs. After the frogs were in I decided to stamp the grass - so I had to remove the frogs, stamp the grass and then put the frogs back in. It was an idea that kept evolving.

I taught the final Crazy for Cupcakes class last night. It was with some of the ladies from work and we did it in a conference room. Well by the time we were done - there was glitter everywhere. Unfortunately the cleaners came and left while we were still working away. I had a meeting in that room this morning at 9:00 am. As everyone walked in their first comment was "what is with all the glitter" (it really was everywhere). Good thing the guys have a good sense of humour and didn't mind. I am sure that when they went home tonight they all had glitter on them - they sure would have some 'splaining to do.

Happy almost Friday. I don't want to jinx myself but I am hoping for a productive weekend - doing the Oceans Eleven Blog Challenge, Visit the ladies blogs and get some Easter Cards done.

I found the card I was looking for (kind of). I had posted it on SCS. I never thought to look there for the "sample". I still can't find the original but at least I know what I have to make now.

I am blogging it here so I will know where to find it the next time. FYI - Unfrogettable is one stamp set I will never get rid of.

It is official, I have become my mother!

Don't you hate it when you can't find something. Someone asked me to make some Shaker Cards using the Unfrogettable set. It was a specific card I had made in the past and I "thought" I had a sample or at least a picture of it. For the love of me I can't find it. I had thought I even blogged it at one point - but Nooooo! The thing is though - I know it is here somewhere.... I have become my mother. I have put it away and now I can't find it!

Instead of a card today - I have a tip. Now I know you have all done this - I can't be the only one. You get something all glued up and place it on your project and realize that it is crooked. Don't you hate that! I use the ATG tape runner on most of my projects and this is what I do. (I'm not sure this would work with liquid adhesives).

I have a paper piercing tool that came in a Making Memories set (you can also buy them individually at a local craft store). I take this tool and gently pry it under a corner on the project. Be gentle and slide the tool under the edge of the paper - around all four sides. The piece of paper will eventually come off. Most of the time - unharmed.

I am not a video guru, but I took a couple of pictures to try and explain.

I was showing this to the ladies on Saturday and they thought it was a good idea - so I decided to share.

Final note for the American Idol fans out there - WOW KRIS ALLEN. He is my favourite by far. Yes Adam is a good singer as well - but there is something about him that just doesn't sit right.

More Easter Cards

Tonight I spent the evening getting ready for Wednesday night's class. Everything is cut, sorted and ready to pack up tomorrow night. I am doing this class away from the house so I will need to take everything with me when I leave for work Wednesday morning. It never fails - don't know about you - but I always end up forgetting something.

I also got some Easter cards done. These were CASED from one I received at Regionals (I had posted the original a few week's back). It is a simple and quick card to do. I did up a bunch in a variety of colours. It is a great way to use up some of the Sale-a-Bration ribbon and DSP.

A Class, the Family Tree and a Card

The ladies went away happy today after making their "Crazy for Cupcakes" themed birthday cards. It makes me happy when they love the project they make. I must admit - this so far was my favourite EVER! I am doing it again on Wednesday night - I will be a pro at it. I also made a set and when the ladies left, I went over to my neighbours and gave her the set I made.

This might get long so you can skip to the end for the card "du jour". At Christmas I had a leather bound book made for my sisters full of black/white photos that we discovered when we cleaned out my Aunt's apartment. She passed away a few years ago at 94 (lived a nice long life) and the pictures were from the 20's, 30's, 40's, etc. Pictures of my mom/dad when they were courting, war-time etc. (the picture of the couple my blog header was one of the "finds" of my parents). Anyhow... that lead me to want to work on the Family Tree - so I signed up at Ancestry.com and started to work away at it. Well last week I received an e-mail from a lady in France. It turns out that my Grandmother and her Grandmother were sisters. Three of my dad's siblings (all now deceased - there were 9 of them!) were born in England and this contact has pictures of them before the immigrated to Canada. Well heck I sure did ask her to scan the pictures and e-mail them to me. I am sure my cousins would love to see pictures of their parents when they were small. If you haven't played with the Ancestry website - it is pretty neat. You plug in the information you know and it starts searching databases, ship records, etc. and other family trees. Then it populates your tree with "hints". You can look at the hints to see if they match and then add the information to your tree. Bottom line - I have a relative in France..... it really is a small world. Heck you and I could also be related.

This is another swap I received at Regional. Unfortunately I can't give anyone credit as they didn't put any information on the back of it. I love how she used the large tag punch then the smaller tag punch popped up inside.

I have an appt tomorrow (yes Sunday) to get the windows tinted on my car then I "hope" to do my taxes (deadline in Canada is Apr 30) so I am not sure how productive I will be on making cards.

Hands up everyone who is happy it is Friday! I have been doing double-duty at work for the last two weeks (one of the other Admin was off and we back each other up) and it has caught up with me. I am all ready for tomorrow's class so am heading to bed.

Tonights card is one I did a few years ago for Christmas. It is a very simple slider card (it is amazing what you can do with a couple of pennies) but I loved how it turned out. The image is not SU (I think it might be Hero Arts). The sentiment is a retired SU one.

It feels like Christmas!

The UPS truck paid a visit today and the goodies WERE ALL MINE! It was like Christmas opening up the boxes. This may sound weird but I love to "organize" my stuff when it comes in. Mind you it doesn't stay like that for long.

I have some girls coming over on Saturday for a class and I am holding another class Wednesday evening that I need to get ready for - but sometime over the weekend I hope to play. One of the goodies was the new Sizzix Pop Up Cake die - I can't wait to try that out. I have seen some great cards made with it - but it does look fiddly.

Another swap card I received at London's regional was this card by Rose Murphy. I have this stamp set and to be honest it is not my favourite. Whenever I coloured the elephant it looked too cartoonish. WELL... I have changed my mind. Rose was very clever and stamped the elephant on some DSP and then cut it out and glued it on top of the stamped image on the card. What a difference it makes to the elephant. Of course I love the colour combination that she used.

On a side note - this is not a lot to some but I am over 3000 hits on the blog. Whoohoo. I am working on some blog candy for my 5000th hit. I can't wait.
